I often describe my practice as lifestyle medicine. When treating my patients I have three goals in mind: minimize pain, maximize function and optimize lifestyle. Most importantly, I believe that medical practice is a dialogue: an opportunity for me to listen to the patient and ask the proper questions to make an accurate diagnosis. Only then can we formulate an effective treatment plan and decide together how best to proceed. In my practice, surgical and non-surgical management of injuries is routinely followed by a discussion of injury prevention strategies in order to limit future risk. While success in achieving these goals is sometimes best served by surgery, I routinely consider non-surgical options first when appropriate.

Orthopaedic surgeons specialize in expert treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, including ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendon ruptures, bone fractures, joint dislocations, overuse injuries and arthritis. As a board certified surgeon, I treat school age athletes, professional competitors, weekend warriors and active people of all ages who sustain injuries that prevent them from returning to the activities they love most. My particular surgical interests and expertise include arthroscopic surgery and reconstruction of shoulder, knee and hip injuries as well as joint replacement surgery for arthritis of the shoulder and knee.

I treat many patients who have been told to stop running or biking or playing basketball to prevent further injuries. When coming for a second opinion, many people ask me "do I really need to give up my favorite activities?” I prefer to reframe the discussion, asking instead "what can we do to get you back in action safely?" Closing the door to physical exercise or sports is usually a last resort; asking the proper questions nearly always leads to the best possible outcome.
